Brunswick Beaches Travel Guide

Come discover the beautiful unspoiled beaches of Brunswick Beaches..... not to mention the stunning sunrises & sunsets!

Brunswick County's barrier island beaches, situated between the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean, face the Atlantic to the south and extend from the South Carolina state line to the historic village of Southport, North Carolina.

Brunswick Beaches Travel Guide includes the following locations:

  • Southport - a lively seaside town listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Southport has numerous historic sites, art galleries, antique shops, a variety of restaurants, a maritime museum, and a waterfront park. Southport is considered to be the Fourth of July Capital of North Carolina.

  • Bald Head Island - a prosperous resort and residential community which can be reached by personal boat or the island's ferry that runs between Bald Head Island and Southport at the Indigo Plantation. You can see the Bald Head Island Lighthouse from a distance. This wide-based lighthouse was built in 1817 and is considered the oldest lighthouse in North Carolina. It was retired in 1935. There are 14 miles of beaches on Bald Head Island. The island also has a bed and breakfast inn, a restaurant, bike rental and golf cart rental, as well as a general store and a specialty store. Gas-powered engines are not allowed on the island.

  • Oak Island - famous for it live oak trees and contains 10 miles of beaches with 65 beach access points, an 18-hole championship golf course near the beach, a marina and 3 piers, and a picnic area on the Elizabeth River. The Oak Island Lighthouse was built in 1958. Vacation rentals are abundant here for visitors seeking a quiet, peaceful family getaway.

  • Caswell Beach - named after the historic Fort Caswell on the north end of the island. Caswell Beach has the brightest lighthouse in the US. Caswell has some summer homes, but is mostly comprised of permanent residents.

    Other Brunswick Islands include:

  • Calabash

  • Holden Beach

  • Ocean Isle Beach

  • Sunset Beach
